Website Development
Website Design vs Website Development: What's the Difference?
The two terms get used interchangeably, which makes quotes hard to compare. They describe different parts of the same project.
Design
Design covers structure, layout, typography, colour, imagery and the journey a visitor takes through the site. Good design is not decoration — it is deciding what a person sees first, what they do next, and how easily they get there.
Development
Development is the build: turning the design into fast, responsive, accessible pages, and adding the functionality behind them — forms, catalogues, bookings, payments, integrations and the data that drives them.
Why one person doing both helps
When the same person designs and develops the site, nothing is designed that cannot be built well, and technical decisions are made with the visitor experience in mind rather than after the fact.
What happens after the build
At hand-over, the website is ready to use. You can manage it yourself, or choose optional weekly care for supplied updates, regular on-site content, basic technical SEO, security and performance maintenance.
